Abstract

ABSTRACT

This study aims to examine the influence of social media on fanatical attitudes among K-Pop fans, particularly within the Army fandom in Bandung. The growing emotional involvement of fans with their idols through social media has become an interesting phenomenon to investigate. Social media serves as a virtual space that strengthens fans’ identity, loyalty, and engagement with South Korea’s popular culture. The research employed a quantitative approach with a survey method, distributing questionnaires to 94 respondents. The sample was selected using purposive sampling based on specific criteria, while the data were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with the aid of SmartPLS 3.0. The findings reveal that social media has a positive and significant influence on fanatical attitudes. Indicators such as network, information, archive, simulation of society, and user-generated content are proven to contribute to the intensification of fan fanaticism. These results reinforce the Stimulus-Organism-Response (SOR) theory and Social Identity Theory, indicating that social media can shape group behavior and strengthen individuals’ emotional attachment to particular communities.

ABSTRAK

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh media sosial terhadap sikap fanatisme penggemar K-Pop, khususnya pada fandom Army di Kota Bandung. Meningkatnya keterlibatan emosional penggemar terhadap idola K-Pop melalui media sosial menjadi fenomena menarik untuk diteliti. Media sosial telah menjadi ruang viartual yang memperkuat identitas, loyalitas, dan keterlibatan penggemar dalam budaya popular Korea Selatan. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan metode survei melalui penyebaran kuesioner kepada 94 responden. Sampel ditentukan dengan teknik purposive sampling berdasarkan kriteria tertentu, sedangkan analisis data dilakukan menggunakan Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) dengan bantuan software SmartPLS 3.0. Berdasarkan analisis data diperoleh temuan bahwa media sosial berpengaruh positif dan signifikan. Indikator media sosial seperti network, information, archive, simulation of society, dan user generated content terbukti terhadap peningkatan sikap fanatisme. Temuan ini memperkuat teori Stimulus-Organism-Response (SOR) dan teori identitas sosial, bahwa media sosial dapat membentuk perilaku kelompok dan memperkuat keterikatan emosional individu terhadap kelompok tertentu.
